A Creative Director walks into a bar. He’s joined by a Head of Copy, a PR Account Manager and lastly, a Chief Strategy Officer. No, this isn’t the start of a joke. It’s the set-up for the first ever episode of Untrended – our brand new agency podcast.
This is not another PowerPoint presentation dressed up as a business podcast. We launched Untrended to cut through the noise, rather than add to it – offering real thoughts on everything from hangovers in the workplace to the fear of AI-induced brain rot.
On future episodes of the pod, we’ll be getting to the bottom of why our parents don’t really understand what we do, and the rallying spirit of turning up to work after a big boozer.
So, what will you hear in episode 1?
If I asked AI to write this, you’d probably be able to tell. Just like our white blood cells attack foreign invaders, human beings living in the age of AI naturally seek out those key giveaways in sentence structure and language. We over analyse the hands of models in each visual. We observe the absence of human experience in writeups.
Some hate it. That’s more or less what journalists have told PR Account Manager Shiri Wolff, and it’s why they’re asking the PR team not to share any content using it.
But that’s not the unanimous opinion of AI use in a creative agency. In fact, unsurprisingly it continues to be a down-the-middle, good and bad, some like it some don’t kinda topic – even in 2025. CSO Billy thinks AI’s ‘just like sand’. Head of Copy Nic worries it’s gonna’ rot our brains forever. (Everyone agrees you shouldn’t wear gold trousers.)
In this episode, we get to the bottom of what it’s doing to our brains. Will failing to engage become our new normal? What if we become too reliant on something that makes us all indistinguishable as individuals? Is the reverse of that also a possibility – is it going to make us all 10x smarter? Unlikely.
We’ve got hot takes like: “If you work in a role that is ostensibly in a creative business, then you have to enjoy the creative process. If you’re happy to outsource the creative part all the time, then you probably don’t enjoy it.” – Jamie Fewery (unsurprising words there, from a CD).
As with all of our upcoming episodes, in our debut we poke fun at current trends in our Trend or Trash segment, which unravels some interesting insights on topics like fully AI-created ads:
Yes. Generative AI can speed up our work. But when it comes to brainstorming creative ideas – can an AI model successfully replace the collaborator you’re meant to bounce ideas off? Do you still get up and put post-its on the wall when you’re talking to a machine? HAS AI MADE POST-ITS OBSOLETE?!
We promise to make sure every episode brings something different. That’s why we cover a whole range of sub-topics and themes. In episode one, you can expect:
